What are the symptoms of anxiety?

There are many general symptoms of anxiety, many that most people will probably experience in stressful situations such as: experiencing headaches, muscle aches, or unexplained pains, being easily fatigued, having difficulty with falling or staying asleep, feeling restless, wound-up or on-edge, and difficulty controlling feelings of worry.

What can help with anxiety?

A few simple ways to calm yourself down when you’re feeling anxious or stressed is to:

 

  • Take a time-out… step away from whatever is making you feel stressed, even if it’s for a couple of minutes, and do something to take your mind off it for a while until you feel ready to go back to it.

 

  • Make sure to get enough sleep… research has found that deep sleep restores “the brain’s prefrontal mechanism that regulates our emotions, lowering emotional and physiological reactivity and preventing the escalation of anxiety,” so if you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep, you give your brain a chance to restore itself. Also make sure that you are in a healthy sleeping environment; don’t do any work or stress-related activity in bed or your bedroom as you will subconsciously associate that environment with work so your brain won’t be able to rest.

 

  • Keep a healthy diet… our brains only take up around two percent of our overall body weight, but it uses up to twenty percent of your energy from calories. Your brain needs fuel, and that’s not just about eating healthy, it’s also about what you eat. This doesn’t mean that you have to eat a salad for every meal of the day, every day. You are allowed a slice of cake too! But it is important that the contents of your diet are beneficial for your mind so that you have the right amount of minerals and vitamins to keep you healthy, whilst giving you more energy throughout the day. This consists of: fruit, vegetables, proteins, beans, oils and pulses. However hard it may seem, whilst you’re adding healthy contents to your diet, you should limit: salt, sugar, caffeine and alcohol, which can aggravate anxiety and trigger panic attacks.

 

  • Exercise daily… exercising can help you feel good and maintain both your physical and mental health. Research has shown that just an hour of walking a day can significantly reduce anxiety and depression. Exercise releases lots of great chemicals to your brain that make you feel better! Endorphins are one of them, which block pain and increase sensations of pleasure. Another is endocannabinoids, which are thought to be responsible for the feeling of calm euphoria that occurs after exercising. An important one is dopamine, which is responsible for you to feel pleasure, among other processes in the body, such as regulating heart rate, sleep cycles, mood, attention, motivation, working memory, learning, and pain processing.

 

  • Try breathing exercises… there are lots of great breathing exercises that can help you feel calm and take the stress away when you are trapped in the moment so make sure to keep a look out for ones that suit you. We recommend that you start by breathing out so that your lungs are empty of air. Breathe in through your nose for four seconds, keeping your body relaxed whilst you do. Then, exhale through your mouth for eight seconds, keeping relaxed. Repeat until you start to go into a state of relaxation.

When we first started DEMI+CO our first few magnetic bracelets were all copper, we never realised the popularity of copper bracelets and copper magnetic bracelets till our first few orders were made and then they just took off. Since then, we have continued to add to our copper magnetic bracelet collection making it one our largest magnetic bracelet collection to date. The dual benefits of copper and magnets is what makes the bracelets appealing as well as the aesthetic rose coloured hue of copper which gives it its warmth and shine. Recent requests of copper bracelets without magnets have resulted in us also adding a no magnets range too.
