What are small hoops called?

Small hoops are called huggie earrings, the reason why they are called huggies is because they are small in size and hug the earlobe. Huggie earrings are usually daintier and are smaller in size from 10mm in diameter to 14mm. Huggies are ideal for most ear piercings and can be worn on different parts of the ear too depending on the thickness of the huggie hoop. Some small hoops can also be classed as sleeper hoops which are extremely thin and small and usually used for new piercings.

Are small hoops classy?

Yes, small hoops are a classic shape and can be ideal for any smart or low key events. Their small size makes them ideal for work, casual or any occasion. The dainty size and style of small hoops ensures they don’t overtake an outfit or look and can seamlessly blend to create a demure or casual look that is ideal for smart and professional settings as well.

What is the most uncommon ear piercing?

The most uncommon ear piercing is the snug piercing, the snig piercing is pierced horizontally through the inner rim of the cartilage just above the anti-tragus. As the piercing goes through the cartilage – making it a very painful hence why it is not very popular and why it is the least popular of all ear piercings. The healing time for the snug piercing is also much longer than other ear piercings around the 4 to 6 month mark.

Over time hoops became more fashionable but even to this date many cultures have a high religious or cultural association with hoop earrings.

What is the difference between a huggie and a mini hoop?

Huggie hoops are very small and tend to hug the ear lobe and a mini hoop is a very small hoop earring that still has a gap between the ear lobe and the earring. Huggie hoops are usually around 5mm to 14mm and a mini hoop is usually around 16mm or larger. Huggie hoops are ideal for helix, daith, rook, high lobe and tragus potentially too.

Can I sleep with small hoops in?

You can sleep with very small hoops called sleeper hoops, these are tiny and thin hoops that fit snuggly around your ear/lobe and can also be used as a first earring for a new piercing. However, for any other type of earrings the rule of thumb is that all jewellery including earrings should be removed before going to bed. Apart from wedding rings, first stud earrings, sleeper hoops and some magnetic bangles which can be worn over night all other jewellery should be removed.

  1. Professional registered piercing studio – the piercer must be licenced to carry out piercings. Some local authorities in the UK may set an age limit for piercings such as 16 years old as a condition of the licence.
  2. Hygiene and safety – most local councils in the UK keep registers of approved piercers who have passed hygiene and safety standards and who are regularly inspected by health and safety officers.
  3. Registered piercing premises will use sterile equipment and disposable needles and equipment.
  4. People with health problems like heart disease, allergies, diabetes, a week immune system or a blood/bleeding issues should speak to their GP or medical professional before getting pierced.
  5. The piercing studio should use clean disposable surgical gloves for each customer and wash their hands and use disposable paper towels.
  6. Cleanliness – having a sterile clean area and they must use single use needles and discard them after each piercing.
  7. Jewellery – that is used should be sterilised before hand and should be appropriate for the type of piercing that you are having.

Signs that may be of concern include but is not exclusive to are sore or red area, raised or inflammation, or if there is yellow liquid. Any concerns should be seen by a gp or medical professional.
